Classic Comics

Comics have long been 'kid friendly' reading selections. You can find favorite Saturday morning cartoons, as well as comic book versions of several classic stories. There is even a comic book version of the Bible. Comics have wide appeal both as collectables and as entertainment. For some children classic comics are the first readers that they explore.

The Golden Age of comics was in the period between the late 1930`s till the late 40`s. These were considered the first modern comic books. It was in this time that Batman, Captain America and Superman and wonder Woman were born. Superman made is debut in Action Comics, which was published by DC Comics.

In the late 40`s the Golden Age of Comics left us and the Silver Age of Comics came to be. The Silver age of comics started around 1956. The age lasted till the late 60`s or 70`s. In the time before the silver age, comic sales had been in decline. This age saw the start of the Fantastic Four. The characters during the Silver age were often plagued by self doubt and were flawed.

The next stage in comics was the Bronze Age. This period began in the early 70`s and lasted into the 80`s. Now the comic books began to add real world conflicts to its pages. Superman had his powers scaled back and Spider man`s girlfriend died during this era.
Also this era saw the rise of a few minority super heroes. Storm, Luke Cage and Black lighting were a few.

The next stage of comic books is the Modern Age. It started in the Mid 80`s and is still going on today. It`s also called the Dark Age of Comics. Many of the story lines are dark and grim. Watchmen is an example of this type of comic. This era also saw the rise of the Anti-hero.

Adults get into the Comics game as well. They enjoy reading them, of course, but they also collect them for the value that they hold in memories and monetary value. Classic comic names like Marvel and DC and Dark Horse catch the ear of those who know comic art. Original comics are great to have. There is big business in selling reprints and collected volumes of the original comics. Rare old comics, like these Betty Boop collectible items are highly prized for their value.

Nowadays music, movies and art have all coincided with Comics. Kiss collectibles have always included comics and action figures.

No longer are comic lovers confined to print media, or television and movies. Instant Classic Comics are web based strips that appeal to a wide range of aficionados. One name that shows up with a search is White Ninja comics. Others are online, with their own forums, and blogs. Nothing seems to compare, though, to the original comic books and comic strips.

When we think of classic comics, certain names come to mind. Superman, and Wonder Woman, Fantastic Four and Captain America are just a few of our childhood heroes. Long before television made them popular, or the movies, these were the lovingly drawn and scripted comic books. Kids followed them avidly, waiting for each new release. I remember my older sister talking about Kato and Green Lantern. Publish and sell your books at Tight Writers online book store
